What was your biggest fear as a child? Do you still have it today? If it went away, when did your feelings change?

I was scared of all the Boogeymen
The creatures of the night
Who bumped and prodded in my room
Those webbed toes that caused me fright

I got scared when doors would creak and squeak
When no one was around
My night night light was not as strong
When my teddy bear could not be found

I’ve been scared of them for oh so long
And had no idea why
Until the day I realized
That they weren’t the ones who could make me cry

Boogeymen can be vanquished
Monsters can turn to dust
But broken hearts and empty promises
Will leak into your soul and rust

Scary ghosts and ghoulish spectres
They never last for long
But the first time that my heart ached
Still lingers like a broken song
